About Us
Dunmow Club was founded in 1942, and has been active ever since. We cater for all types of rifle and pistol shooting.
There are opportunities for members to compete in the local small-bore league and postal competitions as well as club competitions for rim-fire and gallery/pistol-calibre firearms (both rifles and long-barrelled revolvers). These competitions and general .22 rifle shooting take place on Wednesday nights in the Drill Hall and at Andrewsfield. Some Club members are active in shotgun and full-bore competitions throughout the year.
The range in the drill hall consists of two 25m lanes that can be shot from the prone position.
Once a month, usually the first Saturday, an outdoor 25m range is available at Andrewsfield. Here .22 and pistol calibre rifles can be shot, as well as muzzle loading and black powder rifles and pistols.
Regularly during the year the club books targets at Bisley at ranges of up to 1000 yards. Further full bore fixtures occur occasionally, mainly at Bassingbourn Barracks, near Royston, Herts (100m & 30m full bore and 50m small bore ranges), and Barton Road, Cambs (a 1000yd gallery range). Fingringhoe ETR complex near Colchester will be featuring in the fixtures list more this year, we hope. At the beginning of each year (since 2001 at least) the Club helps to host the SE Practical Rifle Championships on Fingringhoe's 600m ETR set up.
